Remark: The 250+ sample data was from Doris Ke, the chief organizer of the cocktail party. Alcohol preference and clubbing preference were according to my understanding of the answers. Answers like ‘So so’, ‘一般’, ‘OK’, ‘可以’, ‘看情况’ and etc. were categorized into the ‘indifferent’ group.
Here are some brief thoughts on the upcoming reunion party:

  1. It is good for the attendants to get to know each other beforehand. Imagine 250+ people crowding in a room, how can I find the hottest guys in this room? One way I can think of is to issue the profiles (ranked by year of graduation and gender) of the participants who is willing to offer their personal information. Let’s call it ‘the map’. Attendants can buy the map at the entrance of the party. An alternative way is to release it on the internet for free several days before the party. For it is dull to view a book full of names and pictures and judging people by their appearance is ‘ungeilivable’, it would be great if we add some cute icons on corner of the photos. Who is hot? Who is smart? Who is the second generation of the wealth (just for fun)? The hidden aspects of each person are revealed in theses icons.
  2. The icon idea can be extended further. For me, I prefer the ‘like’ icon idea(as many websites are using this idea). In case of the inflation of icons, maybe five ‘like’ icons are free, but one needs to pay for extra ‘like’ icons. Everyone can paste the ‘like’ icons on someone you like.
  3. Chinese people are shy. At least, I would feel embarrassing if I ask a girl her phone number, and it is stupid to hold a pen and a note or a cell phone in a cocktail party. It is good if everyone carries name cards and something alike. But one social attribution of name cards is the concept of ‘exchange’. In order to prevent from exchanging name cards with the guys you dislike, I suggest the organizers to offer some notes, namely the ‘Cell Phone Note’ as the officially recommended way to exchange contact info. One write his or her number on the notes beforehand and choose to give the phone number or the fake one.
  4. The Red ‘n Green Party idea is great, but it is a little bit Jiong to wear the same color cloths. AND IT IS UNFAIR FOR THE COLOR BLINDNESS! I recommend to add a red ‘n green area on the name card.
